World AIDS Day 2019

On World AIDS Day, we must remember those who have tragically lost their lives to AIDS. I continue to stand with those who call on the government to get the NHS to provide PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) to those that want it.

We’ve made so much progress in preventing HIV transmission, yet in England last year, we saw 15 people contract HIV whilst waiting for access to to PrEP.

Liberal Democrats have been, for years, calling on the government to make sure PrEP is available on the NHS. It’s available in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, yet England is still waiting. This must change.

I back the Liberal Democrat commitment in meeting the Global Goal to end AIDS by 2030.

PrEP should be free to access and sexual health services should receive the funding they need to keep our communities safer and more informed.
